Eric followed the old man. He led him to a large building. The building had the words, "Jojo's Water Gym" painted on it. When they went inside, Eric saw a huge room with several swimming pools in it. "All a Pokémon needs is good training. There are no naturally strong Pokémon," The old man said. "Your Dracoquartz is very strong, but he has almost no defense," The old man said. "Why did we come to a water gym? Aren't rock Pokémon weakened by water?" Eric asked. "Only in battle. You see, when a rock type Pokémon is attacked by water, their tough skin loses it's hardness. But later the skin becomes harder. This secret was discovered by scientists very recently, and the public doesn't know about it." the old man said, trying to keep his voice down.
Eric called Dracoquartz out of the Pokéball. "Alright, get in the pool," Eric said. The Dracoquartz was reluctant to go in the pool. "I said, get in the pool,". The Pokémon shook his head. Eric charged at the Dracoquartz and it jumped into the pool. It began to cry. "Let's leave it there for an hour, then we'll exercise it," the old man said. "Stay in the pool," Eric said. The Pokémon was scared stiff from Eric's attack, so he wouldn't leave the pool. When they came back, Dracoquartz was still in the pool. "It's good that you got it at such a weak phase, it'll be obedient like this even when it gets older." the old man said. "Alright, Dracoquartz get out of the pool." Eric commanded. "You can't expect him to get out, he can't move right now. We have to lift him out with a crane,"
"A crane? Are you nuts?" Eric said. "We can just use the gym crane over there," the old man said, as he pointed to a large machine behind Eric. "Do you know how to operate a machine like that?" the old man asked. "I think so," Eric said. Eric walked over the the machine and climbed in. He couldn't find any controls, just a big red button. He pushed it and a Nintendo style controller came out. The controller had a + pad, a start and select button, and to red buttons labeled A and B. A man with a really big head came in and said, "Do you know how to play the Trendy Game?".Eric replied,"Trendy Game? This is a crane!" Eric said, confused. "This is different than any other crane you've ever operated before! Push A to move it up, and B to move it to the right. Let go of B to drop the crane and pick up your prize."
"Prize? I'm trying to get my Pokémon!" Eric said. "Good! Then you've selected your prize!" the man in glasses said. Eric tried to move the crane, but nothing happened. "You have to put 25 rupees in first!" The man said. "I don't have any rupees!" Eric said, feeling less and less like his Pokémon would ever get out of he water. "Oh yeah, rupees are Hyrulean money..." the man said. "Hyrulean?" Eric asked. "Hyrule is an old country over the sea, they're very primitive but they know how to use magic and stuff like that," the man said. "What kind of Pokémon are there there?" Eric asked, feeling very interested in Hyrule. "That's the strange part, Hyrule knows nothing of Pokémon!" the man said. "Quit ye yappin'! We got work to do!" the old man said. "I'll trade you 25 yen for a 25 rupee piece!" the man said. Eric handed over 25 yen, and he got a small chunk of crystal rock. He put the rupee into a slot. The machine roared to life.
"Remember what I told you!" the man said. Eric pushed A and the crane extended it's arm forward. He let go of A and held B. When the crane's shadow came over Dracoquartz, he let go of B and the crane dropped. The crane picked up Dracoquartz, and Eric was surprised that the crane could lift something a heavy as Dracoquartz. He tried to move the crane, but the crane moved on it's own. It moved itself to a conveyor belt and dropped Dracoquartz.Eric expected a loud "CRASH!!" but Dracoquartz seemed to lose weight. The conveyor belt moved Dracoquartz until he dropped on the ground. Eric ran over to retrieve his Pokémon. When he touched it, it's skin didn't feel rocky, it felt like a Nerf ball, soft and squishy. "Let's take Dracoquartz back to the rock gym," the old man said. "What?! His skin is so soft! He'll lose in a second..........just like last time!" Eric said. "By the time we get there, he'll be dry," the old man said. Eric followed the old man and the Dracoquartz followed them. He was moving much faster now.
The group walked down the street when they heard a cracking sound. They turned around to see something that could not be mistaken: Dracoquartz was evolving. It's skin was opening up. A huge creature emerged from the Dracoquartz. It looked nothing like a rock Pokémon, it looked like a grass type. It looke like a Bellsprout, only not as skinny or short as a Bellsprout. All over it's body there were spikes and blades. "Well Eric, since you're the first person ever to own one of these, you get to name it!" the old man said. "I thought you said that a Dracoquartz evolved before!" Eric said. "It was just a hunch I had," the old man said. "Alright...........Dracosprout!" Eric said. "Good choice...now, don't you have a gym to go to?" the old man said.
The door to the rock gym flew open. "I have come to challenge you again!" Eric said. Some people in the gym chuckled at Eric's appearance. Eric climbed in the ring, where Dottie waited for him. "Come back to lose? Two Pokémon," she said. Eric pulled out his Pokéball. "I choose Drowzee and Dracosprout! " Eric said as he let the Pokéball fly. "I choose.....Demonix and Golem!" Dottie said as she threw her Pokéball with Golem inside. When Dracosprout finally materialized, the crowd gasped. They knew it had to be the evolved form of Dracoquartz, because the two looked alike. Dottie pulled out her Pokédex. She was very upset when she saw that the Pokédex couldn't identify the Dracosprout."LLLLLET'S GET READY TO RUMBLLLLLLLLLE!!!!!" The announcer yelled. "Dracosprout! Tackle!" Eric shouted.
The Dracosprout tackled the Golem and slashed at it with it's vine tentacles. "IT'S NOT FAIR!!!! ROCK POKÉMON ARE WEAK AGAINST GRASS!!!" Dottie screamed as her Golem fell unconsious to the ground. She called back Golem and sent out Demonix. "Demonix!!! Tail swipe attack!!!" she screamed. "Dracosprout! Jump!" Eric yelled. The Dracoquartz jumped in the air, dodging the Demonix's attack. "Dracosprout! Buzz saw spin!" Eric shouted. As Eric's Pokémon came to the ground, it spun, twirling all of it's blades in a storm of sharp objects. After the attack, the Demonix had been cut badly and was crying. "I LOST!!!!WAHHWAHAHAHAAA!!!" Dottie screamed. "Eric wins the match! And CRYBABY Dottie lost!" the annoncer said. Dottie began sobbing. "Geez.....don't take it so seriously!" Eric said.
The gym leader jumped off his rock. He walked toward Eric. He looked angry. He stepped in the ring. "Well done......you must battle me now!" he said. "Two Pokéballs? I choose Dracosprout and Drowzee!" Eric said. "I choose Geodude and Onix.....the classic team," the gym leader said. The crowd was chanting, "Brock! Brock! Brock!". Eric wondered why Brock would choose such weak Pokémon. "Geodude! Go!" Brock yelled. "Psycho! Go!" Eric yelled. Eric was the first to attack. "Psycho! Confusion!" Eric said as a flash filled the room. The Geodude was knocked to the ground as if a fist punched him. The Geodude got up and flung itself like a bowling ball at Psycho. Psycho made a psychic shield appear around him. Geodude bounced off of the shield like a rubber ball and flew out of the ring. The force from the hit knocked Psycho out. "Psycho return!" Eric yelled. "Dracosprout! Go!" Eric yelled. By the time Dracosprout was out, Onix was standing there, waiting to attack. "Dracosprout! Vinewhip!" Eric yelled. Dracosprout's vinewhip was like 10 vinewhips put together. The Onix fell flat to the ground."One!Two!Thre..ah who cares....Eric Ketchum is the winner!" the announcer announced. Brock called back his last Pokémon.
"You win kid!" Brock said as he tossed the Boulderbadge to Eric. Eric proudly pinned the pin to his jacket and left the building. "Hey old man! I won!" Eric said. But the old man was no where to be found. Eric looked at a screen outside the gym. His name was there with the words: Level 2 Trainer. He realized he was pretty good to be a level 2 trainer, but he'll need to train more. Eric began walking down the street. He looked at the computer directory again. He looked for level 2 gyms, but none of them offered badges. He'd need to power up. He decided to go to Mt. Moon.
He waited by the bus stop. When the airbus came he got on. When the bus stopped just outside of town he got out. He began to walk to Mt. Moon. The walk to Mt. Moon was much pleasanter than the journey to Pewter City, because it was a forest instead of a wasteland. As he was walking, he felt a huge gust of wind. Before him appeared a man and a woman. One had red hair and the other blue hair. They were wearing uniforms with big red R's on them. They were probably from Team Rocket, but their uniforms were much fancier than the Team Rocket he saw.
"Prepare for Trouble!" the woman said. "Make that double!" the man said.

James said. "Time travellers? That's amazing!" Eric said. "We've come here to catch Pokémon and then come back to our time with super rare Pokémon that can't be found anywhere else and we'll be famous!" Jessie said.
