Pokemon Journey
Part VII: Cascade Badge, Dead Ahead

JJ and Lisa had made it to the poke center in Cerulean City just before it closed. They managed to get rooms for the night and rest up. As Lisa was preparing for bed, and JJ was checking his book on the pokemon gyms.

"What are you doing JJ?"
"Getting info on the local gym."
"So I get to see the Cerulean gym again."
"Huh?"
"This is where I first learned how to train and raise pokemon. What does it say in the book?"
"It mentions that all the trainers in that gym use only water pokemon. The current leader, or I should say leaders, are three sisters."
"They're still around?"
"Yeah. It says they enjoy all sorts of swimming. The book suggest grass, but from what I heard electric works as well."
"Well get some sleep and we'll kick some butt in the morning."
"Night."
"Night."

By morning JJ and Lisa was ready for the next challenge. Cerulean Gym. When they entered no one was around so they decided to take a look around. Soon they reached a pool with no one around.

"Sure is quiet around here." JJ joked.
"Yeah. Where is everyone?"
"Seel, Seel." A pokemon came to the surface of the water.
"Hey Seel." Lisa greeted. JJ took out his Pokedex.
"Seel. A water pokemon that is known to use Ice attacks. It has a hard time traveling on land. However it is an excellent swimmer."
"Well we see a pokemon, but where is the gym leaders?" JJ asked.
"Like, over here." JJ and Lisa turned to see an orange hared woman standing in an entrance way.
"I thought there were three gym leaders here." JJ said. Seel flopped on to the floor and plopped over to the woman.
"Like, normally yeah, but, like, we all wanted to go out but, like, one of us had to stay behind, and I, like, drew the short straw." The woman, not so elegantly explained.
"Well anyway," JJ said to get back on track.
"I'm here for a Cascade Badge."
"Like, I would be glad to battle, if there wasn't one minor problem."
"What's that?" JJ asked.
"This is the only fighting pokemon we got." She then tossed a poke ball to release a Golddeen. It then began to flop around on the ground. She then called it back.
"Like, all it knows is Horn attack. It wouldn't be so bad if we could get it to evolve into Seaking but that all we, like, got."
"Boy, your bad off."
"Yeah."
"I'll try." Lisa said.
"Hey, didn't you, like, used to train here."
"Yes, my name is Lisa."
"Well, like, give it a shot." The women then went to the side to watch the Seel flopping on behind her. Lisa stood at one end as JJ stood on another.
"How bout One on One?" Lisa challenged.
"Fine by me. Send out your pokemon."
"All right. Go, Staru!" Lisa then tossed to the ground a poke ball which released a starfish like pokemon. JJ took out his Pokedex.
"Staru. This water pokemon's crystal center is said to be a jewel." JJ looked at the pokemon than had the Pokedex continue.
"The jewel is also it's weak point. If broken, Staru will faint."
"All Right! I choose Bulbasaur!" JJ said as he tossed his poke ball. Bulbasaur quickly came out. If JJ's plan paid off this would be a very quick match.
"Bulbasaur, Vine Whip."
"Staru, Tackle."

Bulbasaur dodged the star pokemon and shot out two vines. Both missed the target.

"Bulbasaur, Leech Seed."

Bulbasaur than prepared a small projectile. He took his aim and shot it into the air. Staru didn't have the time to dodge and it landed seemingly harmless on Staru. The key word being seemingly, as vines wrapped around Staru and slowly drained it's energy.

"Now, Vine Whip, aim for it's crystal."

Bulbasaur launched it's vines yet again, but this time landing on target. The crystal broke apart and Staru fell.

"Staru!" Lisa called as she ran up to the fallen pokemon. She quickly placed it back in it's poke ball.
"Well, like, that was a good battle." The woman said as she approached. Lisa also came forward.
"You, like, earned this." She said as Seel opened his mouth reveling a Cascade Badge.
"ALL RIGHT!!!" JJ took the small blue item and held it high.
"I'VE GOT A CASCADE BADGE!!!"
"Nice fight." Lisa said. She was thinking of some more training.
"Come on," JJ said.
"Let's get your pokemon healed." The two then left for the center again.

In a balloon high above three figures were watching the poke center from their perch.

"Come on James, we have to get to Vermilion."
"Hold on Jessie I'm just seeing…. Oh look they're they are."
"Who?" Meowth asked as he leapt onto the edge.
"Those two brats, that's who."
"Well what we doing up here?" Meowth asked.

JJ and Lisa were just sitting in the lobby of the center. Staru was fully healed and JJ let his pokemon out. As it stood the six pokemon he carried were Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Pidgy, Metapod, and Pikachu. All seemed nice and quiet until smoke filled the air.

"Everyone, around me." JJ said as his pokemon came closer to guard each other. Metapod was on the floor in front of JJ.

"Prepare for Trouble,"
"Better make it double."

"Not again." JJ said as the rockets continued.

"To protect the world from devastation,"
"To unite all people within our nation."
"To denounce the evils of truth and love,"
"To extend our reach to the stars above."
"Jessie."
"James."
"Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light."
"Surrender now, or prepare to fight."
"Meowth that's right."

"Do you two have anything better to do?" JJ asked.
"Nope, just looking for revenge." James said.
"Arbok, Go."
"Weezing, Go."

Soon both poison pokemon came out.

"Arbok, Go get'em."
"Squirtle, Water gun."

As Arbok jumped forward, Squirtle shot out a stream of water that shot it backwards.

"Weezing, Go."
"Charmander, Flame Thrower."

Before Weezing could attack, flames had engulfed it and roasted it to a crisp. Both of the rockets pokemon were called back.

"Oh well," Meowth said as he pushed a button on a controller. A rope ladder then came down.
"There's always next time." The three then made an escape without injury.
"That was quick." JJ said.
"Better quick than dead." Lisa joked. All of a sudden a white light filled the room. Nurse Joy having seen the battle from afar came to see what was happening. The pokemon stepped back as Metapod's soft shell split open. Fragile Wings then appeared from the split shell, followed by a body. When the light stopped the evolved pokemon flew up high.
"Free, Buttefree." It said as it flew around the room. JJ took out his Pokedex.
"Butterfree. After Caterpie evolves into Metapod, it again evolves into Butterfree."
"It's beautiful." Lisa said as the pokemon flew to it's trainer.
"What a day!" JJ said as he smiled.

What a day indeed. One of JJ's pokemon evolved. He won a new badge, and he had another victory over the rockets. Things seem to be going well for our hero. But for how long?
