Pokemon Journey
Part III: A beginning to the Pokemon League.
As JJ and his new friend Lisa head out of Viridian City they had a chance to talk. She came from Pallet Town but wanted to be a breeder. She wanted to know how to breed pokemon and how to take care of them. However she only used water pokemon. No wonder she lost to Jester. They soon approached the Viridian Forest. Pokemon were everywhere. JJ kept one hand on his poke ball. The one that had Charmander inside. They soon came across a green bug pokemon.
"A pokemon, All right."
JJ was ready to catch it. JJ quickly whipped out the pokedex while Lisa not so quickly took a couple of steps back with a very unusual look on her face.
"Caterpie," The pokedex began. "A bug pokemon. It’s suction tipped feet can be used to climb even glass."
"Yuck." JJ turned to see an almost scared look on Lisa’s face as the Caterpie curiously came forward.
"I HATE BUGS!!!" She screamed as a confused pokemon just looked at her as she ducked behind a tree.
"Charmander, Go!" JJ decided he better catch it fast before she just plain screamed.
"Char, char."
"Charmander, Slash Attack." The fiery pokemon took a quick swipe as a quick Caterpie dived out of the way, only to hit a small rock.
"Poke Ball, Go!" Quickly the ball was tossed in the air, hit it’s target as the Caterpie disappeared into the small ball. After a short lived struggle to break free the bug pokemon gave up and the ball stopped rocking.
"ALL RIGHT!!!" JJ yelled as he picked up the ball.
"CATERPIE IS MINE!!!"
Lisa then came out of hiding as she took a quick breather. JJ just chuckled to himself.
"You were afraid of a small bug?" Lisa’s only answer was a nervous chuckle.
"Pikachu." JJ stopped chuckling as they saw a rare Pikachu, who came to see what all the racket was about.
"Cool a Pikachu." He whipped his pokedex back out.
"Pikachu, also called the electric mouse. While seemingly harmless it can electrocute pokemon with powerful electric attacks."
The Pikachu didn’t seem to be scared or shy, but rather curious. It had never seen a Charmander before. It just looked at Charmander. It was so intrigued that it didn’t notice the poke ball heading towards him. The Pikachu soon found himself inside the poke ball. He struggled, and even though he wasn’t weakened, the ball won out in the end. Both the Charmander and Lisa looked at JJ.
"I know it’s not a fair way to catch pokemon, but it works."
"I guess."
"Char."
"Come on, I need a water or grass pokemon." JJ said as he picked up his poke ball.
"Why?" Lisa queried.
"Pewter City’s gym leaders use Rock pokemon."
"Oh."
"Charmander, return." The fire pokemon quickly returned to the poke ball.
"Lets go." JJ said hoping to find the required pokemon.
Where is Cinnabar Island?
The pair walked the path for some time. JJ managed to catch both a weedle and a pidgy. As for the needed pokemon, none were sighted. The two came near a large stump. They decided to sit down and take a rest, until they heard a slight rustle in a near by bush.
"What’s that?"
Lisa asked backing behind the stump. She very much wanted to avoid another bug. What walked out in front of them wasn’t a bug, but it was a pokemon. A small turtle like pokemon with an unusual tail.
"A Squirtle." JJ declared pulling out his pokedex.
"Squirtle, A water Pokemon. This turtle pokemon’s shell hardens as it grows."
"It’s mine." JJ said pulling out one of the poke balls.
Lisa thought he had no chance putting a fire pokemon against a water pokemon. But that was not what JJ had in mind.
"Pikachu, I chose you!" He said as he gave a toss. Pikachu came out ready to fight.
"Pikachu, Go!" JJ called as the mouse pokemon leapt into battle.
Squirtle let loose a Water Gun witch knocked the electric pokemon down. But Pikachu got up slightly bruised.
"Pikachu, Thunder Shock."
Pikachu then used it’s ability to gather up enough electricity and with a CHU sent a bolt of lightning at the water pokemon forcing it to fall down. JJ then took out an empty poke ball.
"Poke Ball, Go!"
He shouted as he tossed the ball at Squirtle. The water pokemon was sucked in on contacted, but was to weak to fight the ball and it won out without so much as a struggle.
"ALL RIGHT!!!! SQUIRTLE IS MINE!!!!"
Lisa then walked towards JJ as he picked up the poke ball. He pointed another at Pikachu.
"Pikachu return." In a flash of light the mouse pokemon was in his respected poke ball.
"That Boulder Badge is good as mine with Squirtle on my team." JJ said now ready for the challenge ahead.
"Well let’s get to Pewter City." Lisa said as the two turned to the road ahead.
The last leg of the travel was rather quiet. JJ only captured a Rattata that was transferred back to Professor Oak, and he caught a Spearow which was also sent to Oak. He wished he weakened it a little more though, it almost broke out. Soon however the city could be seen.
Over the horizon laid Pewter City. The current gym leader was Flint. Like all Pewter City leaders he used Rock pokemon. He took over the gym when his son Brock the former gym leader left for a Journey of his own. But with Squirtle he had a good chance of gaining a foothold in the league. The Boulder Badge was the first stepping stone to the Pokemon League. This would be the easiest badge to get, but if he was to cocky he would fail miserably. The first Badge awaits him. The journey has begun.
